The Stone Ship

Over a wire bridge suspended over Chambers Creek, you will find a ship that never quite took sail. Being created during the prohibition, Leon Bandy built the ship for dances and parties. Leon Bandy completed the ship in 1942. Guests would dance on the bottom patio and grab a drink at the bar, located on the top level.

The two-story cabin burned in 1972 due to a wild teenage party. The kids from the party claimed the ship “got struck by lightening”. That story unfolded years later when the Star-telegram did an article and interviewed one of the teenage girls. She explained how it was the seventies and one thing led to another and the cabin caught fire.

Restoration of The Ship

The Weston’s restored the ship in 2011.

The Ship Today

Today, our ship is used as the groom’s loft for weddings. We have hosted cocktail hours and hope to start hosting weddings on the ship.

The bridge makes for an awesome photo opportunity on wedding day. All of the money made from the weddings is put back into the restoration of the gardens.

Due to the wire bridge and safety, the ship is closed during our normal business hours. We open it twice a year to the public on our Trick or Treating in the Gardens event (where we have a pirate and mermaid on the ship and a treasure hunt throughout the gardens) and Easter (where we have a bunny on the ship). Sign up for our newsletter to stay up to date on scheduling for these fun festivities!
